Typhoon “Nina” intensifies as it nears Catanduanes

Typhoon signal number one has been raised in ten areas on Saturday noon.

This signal is up over Southern Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate, including Ticao and Burias Islands, as well as Northern Samar, Samar and Eastern Samar.

“Nina” has intensified further but slightly slowed down as it moves west northwest.

It is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes by Sunday (December 25) afternoon or evening.

The eye of “Nina” is currently 480 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

It is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

On Sunday, more provinces may be placed under tropical cyclone warnings and the warnings may reach up to signal number 2.

“Nina” is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday.
