LUZON must brace for a stormy Yuletide. Samuel Duran, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster, said a low pressure area outside the Philippine area of responsibility had developed into a tropical depression at 1,500 kilometers east of Mindanao, and was brewing to enter the country by Thursday night or Friday morning.

“Once it enters PAR, the tropical depression will be named ‘‘Nina.” It is forecast to cross Southern Luzon and the Visayas,” he told the Manila Standard.

A rainy December 25 is expected, he said. “Most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will be rainy due to the enhancement of the northeast monsoon because of the tropical depression,” he added. If its track will not change, the weather system is forecast to stay even until December 26, he said.
