West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. said 15 barangays in Quezon City will experience a 43-hour water service interruption due to the replacement of a defective valve along a 1,200 mm-diameter primary line along Tandang Sora Avenue in Talipapa, Quezon City.

Maynilad said the water service interruption would affect almost 300,000 customers beginning 8 p.m. of Dec. 5 (Monday) until 4 p.m. of Dec. 7 (Wednesday).

Affected barangays are Apolonio Samson, Baesa, Bahay Toro, Bungad, Damayan, Del Monte, Katipunan, Mariblo, Paltok, Paraiso, San Antonio, Sangandaan, Talipapa, Tandang Sora and Veterans Village.

Maynilad said it would take about 43 hours to stop water flow through the four-foot-tall primary line, insert a line stopper to isolate the valve that will be replaced and install the new valve before allowing the water to flow again through the primary line.

“Valves are necessary for managing the flow and pressure of water inside our pipelines. Hence, it is essential that we have this defective valve replaced immediately to prevent any problems from occurring in the future,” said Maynilad Water supply operations head engineer Ronaldo Padua.

“We are also coordinating with the local government units to manage the traffic situation in the affected areas,” Padua said.

The water company advised customers to store enough water for the duration of the interruption. Those with existing overhead tanks are also advised to clean them first before using them to store water.

Padua said Maynilad would have 14 water tankers on standby to serve the areas with interrupted supply.
