BAGUIO CITY—San Miguel-Northern Cement I retained its five-shot lead as it equaled the 108 production of Manila Southwoods going into the final round tomorrow in the premier Seniors Fil-Championship- of the Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament presented by San Miguel.
Jingky Tuason scored 28 points, Eddie Bagtas and Bong Sison submitted a similar 27, while Chito Laureta had a 26 as the defending champion made 108 points for 373 and still five up on the former many-time champion.
Edmund Yee bannered once again the Carmona, Cavite-based parbusters as he came in with 31 points and the similar 108-point production for a 368 three-day aggregate.
Kui Sun Moon and Raul Minoza had 28 points and Chang Duk Jung added 25 to count for the team, which needs to work extra hard to regain the title it last won in 2012.
Megafiber gained on the two leaders as it shot 112 points for 363, five off Southwoods. Rolly Viray and Ben Jacinto led with 29, while Jose Mari Hechanova and Rene Unson pooled in 27 each to count for the team.
Pugo Adventures, the 2014 champion, had the best round of 116 to improve to 354, nine off the Megafibers, but is still mired at the cellar. Brothers Douglas and Fred Puckett led with 31 and 30 points, while Goodie Ignacio and Ed Montenegro counted with 28 and 27, respectively.
“It’s anybody’s ballgame, although we still have the advantage at lamang kami,” saud Tuazon of San Miguel.
Tuazon added that the course is unforgiving, where “many mistakes happened and will happen.”
But then the team is looking up to Bagtas, a former pro, to carry the last day of fight.
“We are waiting for our team captain to lead us to victory,” he added.
Over at John Hay, Dugong Bughaw got 31 points from Edgar Lee, 30 from Wilfredo Princesa and a pair of 26s from Marlon Soriano and Ed Rendon as Dugong Bughaw made 113 points and a 321 aggregate.
That is 17 up on Nueva Ecija Seniors which fired the day’s best score of 115 in said division and with its 304 over take defending champion San Miguel – Northern Cement.
Joel San Vicente led the Novo Ecijanos with 31 and the trio of Ed Manzanares, Masakazu Saso and Jimmy Dy had 28s to count.
San Miguel, meanwhile, was led by Bobby Inigo with 29, while the pair of Arnold Duay and Rudy Amata chipped in 27 and Lino Magpantay counted with his 25 for 108, equaling the production of the Fil Championship team at BCC, and 302.
Close a fourth is Manila Southwoods which carded 109 and a 301 aggregate.
Meanwhile, Camp John Hay practically took the Fil-F title after it shot 89 and a three-day 320 aggregate.
Robert Basco made 27, Alex Pumecha contributed 26, Jed Hortaleza made a 22 while Pol Mayos and The Manor at John Hay manager Ramon Cabrera counted 17, one of which did not count as the co-host team leads Sandigan by 20.
Sandigan got 25 from Elmer Gardiola, 23 from Elmer Soria and a pair of 21s from Willy Bonilla and Meliton Mabilin for the team’s 90 and 300 total to overtake Mountaineers which made 81 and 293.
Team Gregand may have lost some grounds but still in command of the regular Am F after shooting a 92 at the John Hay golf course.
Greg Anders made 26, Lot Basco had 24, while Jun Villaroman and Bubuy Mendoza chipped in 21 each as the team assembled 278 points.
NBI Golf Team 157 had the flight best of 97 for 278 points and gained five points on the leader. Tony Ilagan led NBI with 26, Olivo Ramos had 25, while Jsee See and Jojo Yap chipped in 24 and 22, respectively to count for the team in the event backed by Toyota, Petron, Magnolia, SMC Global Power, Northern Cement, San Miguel Lifestyle Brews, Manor at Camp John Hay, Forest Lodge, Empire, CJH Development Corporation, Baguio Country Club, Le Chef,and the CJH Trade and Cultural Center, and Mizuno.
Team Razcals shot 94 points and is just a point down on NBI. Bernard Capuyan led Razcals with 29, Swanny Mangaoang made 27, while Rex Balong-angey and Tito Abansi contributed 20 and 18, respectively to count.
