SC asked to cite Marcoses, AFP officials in contempt

Former Bayan Muna Party-list Representatives Satur Ocampo and Neri Colmenares have asked the Supreme Court to cite in contempt the Marcos Family and some military officials.

This is in reaction to the burial of Former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (LNMB) last Friday.

In their petition, the two former lawmakers alleged that the respondents mocked due process because the High Tribunal’s decision favoring the burial is not yet final and executory.

The petitioners did not file any appeal before the Supreme Court to question the earlier ruling, which could have stopped the burial.

But they explained, those opposed to the verdict allowing the burial of Marcos at the LNMB still have 15 days to file a motion for reconsideration.

Included as respondents in the complaint are Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs Ernesto Enriquez, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Ricardo Visaya, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos and Marcos children – Imee, Bongbong and Irene.

For his part, Albay Representative Edcel Lagman considers the filing of a petition at the Supreme Court seeking the exhumation of Marcos’ remains from the Heroes’ Cemetery.

Meanwhile, anti-Marcos protesters will stage a demonstration on Friday, November 25, 2016.
