PH cops escort Kerwin from Abu Dhabi to Naia

THE Philippine National Police is laying out strict security to protect Kerwin Espinosa, who is expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Abu Dhabi today, an official said Thursday.

Espinosa, allegedly one of the  country’s traffickers of illegal drugs in Eastern Visayas, will be fetched by policemen and anti-narcotics agents to ensure his safety once he disembarks, PNP spokesman Dionardo Carlos said.

“The security preparations are for the arrival of the high-profile person,” he said.

Espinosa was arrested at an apartment in Abu Dhabi following a tip from Filipino workers there.

He had gone into hiding before his arrest, first traveling to Malaysia and then proceeding to Hong Kong to elude authorities tracking him days after a warrant for his arrest came out.

He is said to be carrying a fake passport.

Carlos said the members of Espinosa’s immediate family, relatives and lawyers will have access to him.

From the Airport, Espinosa will be brought to Camp Crame and then presented to reporters.

He will then be brought to the office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for booking and then escorted to the PNP Custodial Center, where he will be temporarily detained.

It was still unclear whether Espinosa will be allowed to visit the wake of his father Rolando in Albuera town in Leyte.

His father was killed in an alleged shootout with lawmen trying to serve a search warrant on him at his cell at the Baybay Sub-provincial Jail on November 3.
