Trade undersecretary and Board of Investments managing head Ceferino Rodolfo confirmed Thursday a plan of Chinese investors to put up a 300-hectare industrial economic zone in the Philippines.
The proposal was relayed by members of a Chinese business delegation in October 2016, he said.
“That’s on the table. They will develop the ecozone and they will invite the investors to come in and locate within the industrial zone. They are offering total solutions. With a multitude of jobs that will be created, we want this project to push through,” Rodolfo told reporters at the sidelines of the Nordic Chamber Luncheon event in Makati City.
He said the proposal would be a big deal for the Philippines as production and value addition would be done locally.
The Chinese investors also proposed to expand cooperation by bringing in more tangible projects such as an airport, seaport, one railway, highway and one industrial zone.
