Be entrepreneurs, OFWs encouraged

OVERSEAS Filipino Workers have an array of possible business enterprises to pursue when they settle back in the Philippines, Senator Cynthia A. Villar said during the 6th OFW & Family Summit.

Villar, an advocate for the protection and welfare of OFWs, said government institutions and agencies and peoples organizations are always on standby to give advice and assistance to the thousands of OFWs and their families so they can invest their hard-earned savings for their future.

“Our beloved workers do not have to toil abroad forever. Once they have saved enough money, they can come home, put up a small business and spend more quality and happy times with their families,” the lady senator said.

She acknowledged that many OFWs continue to work abroad until their retirement ages to secure   a better and more comfortable life for their children.

“But they can do that even if they work here in our country. They just need to be wise and practical on how to use their savings. The key here is financial management and proper investment,” she stressed.

Villar said the 6th OFW and Family Summit is a great occasion for overseas workers and their families to learn what kind of small enterprises and other business opportunities are available in the country.

The Summit will offer a lecture on ‘How to be an entrepreneur from being an employee’, with successful OFW entrepreneurs like Steve Tamayo of Tamayo’s Catering, Rebecca Bustamante of Chaire Associates, Ramilton James Alenton of Bigasanko.com, Van Villaraza of Samuelito Tacos, Quesadillas and Burritos, Chef Boy Logro of 7 Flavors and a number of successful agripreneurs sharing their inspiring stories.

There will also be a forum on business opportunities such as franchising and direct selling, and lectures on Financial Literacy, various reintegration programs for OFWs, how to detect, stop and avoid illegal recruitment and human trafficking and business investment scams.

The 6th OFW and Family Summit, with the theme ‘OFWs at Pag-nenegosyo: Partners for Change’, will be held on November 15 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. It will open with a welcome message from Go Negosyo’s founding trustee and Presidential Adviser on Entrepreneurship Joey A. Concepcion, to be followed by inspirational remarks from former Senate President and Villar SIPAG founding chairman Manny Villar and a keynote speech from Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez. Sen. Cynthia Villar will close the summit.

Aside from the lectures and forums, participants will have a chance to win house and lot from Camella Homes, a motorcycle, business karts from Kettle Korn, sari-sari store packages from All Day and appliance packages.
