TROPICAL storm “Meari” had moved away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility due to a tropical depression over the Philippine Sea and a low pressure area in Sorsogon City.

Alex Cada, weather forecaster, said while a tropical depression had pushed “Meari” away to recurve outside PAR, the LPA spotted in the vicinity of Sorsogon City also caused “Meari” to decelerate and move toward the sea.

He, however, said the LPA has a slim chance to develop into a tropical cyclone based on the satellite model.

The LPA embedded along an intertropical convergence zone will continue to affect Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

As of yesterday 5 p.m., “Meari” was spotted at 1,880 kms east of Central Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kms per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It was moving northeast at 7 kph.

The tropical depression was located at 2,845 kms east of extreme Northern Luzon or Itbayat, Batanes, Cada said.

Packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph, it was moving northeast at 20 kph.
