A TROPICAL depression will likely enter the Philippine area of responsibility today, Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Wednesday.

The agency said the weather disturbance will be named “Marce” if it does.

ALERT STATUS. Weather forecaster Rene Paciente closely monitors the Intertropical Convergence Zone, the area encircling the earth near the equator where the northeast and southeast trade winds come together, appearing as a band of clouds, usually thunderstorms—only days after two typhoons pounded the country and left a swathe of death and destruction. The weather disturbance was 2,920 kilometers east of Luzon as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It was moving west-northwest at 19 kph.

Pagasa also said an inter-tropical convergence zone will continue to affect Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, and rain will persist in Northern and Central Luzon due to the northeast monsoon.

It has said three typhoons may enter the country this month.
