9 members of the Manila Police District (MPD) have been relieved following the violent dispersal of protesters in front of the US Embassy.
Among them is MPD Deputy Director for Operations Senior Supt. Marcelino Pedrozo.
PNP National Capital Region Office (NCRPO) Director Oscar Albayalde says, this is pending an investigation into the incident.
Albayalde initially notes, policemen who faced the protesters on Wednesday may have used excessive force, but their actions do not constitute brutality.
22 protesters and 35 cops were injured during the dispersal.
PNP Director for Operations Benjamin Magalong sees some lapses in the way the cops handled the situation.
He also says, there was no enough reason for PO3 Franklin Kho to ram a police mobile through the protesters.
In a statement from Beijing, PNP Chief Ronald Dela Rosa expressed his anger over the incident.
Dela Rosa had watched the video of the event.
He says, the PNP recognizes the people’s right to peaceful assembly.
He adds, police are mandated to enforce maximum tolerance in dealing with street demonstrators.
