Xi Jinping rolls out red carpet for Duterte

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping are holding a bilateral meeting on Thursday morning.

The Chinese leader has just rolled out the red carpet for the Philippine President at the Great Hall of the People in the western edge of Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Chinese honor guards welcomed Duterte with gun and canon salutes as the military band played.

School children waved little flags and flowers as the two heads of state passed by.

This is Duterte’s first trip to China and the fifth country he visited since he assumed the Philippine presidency.
