TROPICAL depression “Karen” will continue to bring moderate rain to Luzon including Metro Manila until the weekend, the weather bureau said Thursday.
The eye of the storm was estimated 540 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, where Storm Signal No. 1 has been hoisted.
The storm had maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 13 kph. It was forecast to make landfall in Aurora or Quezon on Sunday.
Weather forecaster Robert Badrina said “Karen” will leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday and head toward China.
“Flashfloods and landslides will always remain a threat in Luzon,” Badrina told the Manila Standard.
He said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms will persist in the Visayas, while Mindanao will experience light rain.
