3 witnesses to tell all on ‘senator,’ say cops

THE police in Albuera, Leyte, said Wednesday they had three witnesses in custody who would corroborate the claim of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa that 30 people, including a senator, were protecting his son Kerwin in his illegal drug operations in Eastern Visayas.

Albuera Police Chief Jovie Espenido said the three witnesses included an accountant and a secretary who knew about the flow of  revenue from Kerwin’s illegal drug operations.

“We have people that will corroborate  the statement of Mayor Espinosa,” Espenido said.

He made his statement even as eight suspected drug pushers were arrested in Malabon and Valenzuela during anti-drug operations Tuesday night.

Espinosa, whom President Rodrigo Duterte has tagged as one of the top narco-politicians in the country, claims that a senator, some congressmen and police officials are among Kerwin’s 30 protectors.

Espenido said upon the subscription of the corroborating circumstances by witnesses to a prosecutor, they would immediately file appropriate charges against the people listed as protectors of those involved in the distribution of illegal drugs.

Espenido said they were protecting Espinosa from some groups who wanted to silence him as a result of his revelations.

He said a police general and a governor were included in Espinosa’s list of protectors of drug pushers.
