House leaders seek probe on De Lima’s alleged link to drug lords in NBP

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas have filed resolutions seeking the investigation into the proliferation of illegal drug operations inside New  Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

They particularly want Former Justice Secretary and now Senator Leila de Lima to answer charges that drug syndicates proliferated inside the prison complex during her term.

The congressmen say, when De Lima was at the DOJ, drug lords were living in air-conditioned quarters in NBP and even had access to the internet.

Alvarez and Fariñas say, the senator allowed the NBP to become an asylum for drug and gambling lords.

For her part, De Lima maintains, these are already old accusations against her.

She says, she will respond to the charges against her before the Senate investigation on police anti-drug operations on Monday.
