2 Zambo officials quit over drug use

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Two sanitary inspectors of the City Health Office have resigned after they were found to be using illegal drugs in the performance of their duties.

City Health officer Rodelyn Agbulos, who declined to identify the two erring sanitary inspectors, said that no confirmatory test was administered on the two after they resigned.

Agbulos said the conduct of random drug test was started early this year following reports that some of 4,000 CHO personnel were drug dependents, including those assigned in different rural health centers.

“I made it clear to them they have to leave their jobs once they tested positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu since their main task is to promote good health and sanitation among our people,” Agbulos stressed.

Meanwhile, Mayor  Isabelle Climaco-Salazar earlier issued Executive Order 158 mandating all local government officials and employees to undergo drug testing.

Initially, six of 2,000 personnel tested positive for shabu, Salazar said, adding that the conduct of unannounced drug tests will continue.
