THE Supreme Court has been asked to require the Commission on Elections to extend the registration period for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections in October because youth groups argued the law requires that the period last for 30 days.
In a petition, the youth groups led by Akbayan Youth and SK Reform Coalition pleaded the SC to order the Comelec to extend for another 15 days the registration period that ran from July 15 to 30.
The youth groups stressed that the decision of the poll body to limit the period of registration to just two weeks violated Republic Act 10742 or the SK Reform Act, which provides for a period of up to 30 days.
