Leyte Rep. Yedda Romualdez said the meeting was aimed at strengthening the Lakas-CMD’s alliance with the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan where Alvarez is the secretary-general.

“It is the interest of our constituents and Filipino people that is foremost. The meeting was designed to strengthen the alliance of Lakas-CMD and PDP-Laban and support the legislative agenda of President Duterte,” Romualdez said.

Romualdez is the wife of Lakas-CMD president Martin Romualdez, a former House Independent Bloc leader and ex-Leyte congressman, who is also the president of Philippine Constitution Association.

The meeting was also attended by Martin Romualdez and the other Lakas members in the House—Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay and Cavite Rep. Strike Revilla. Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas, also a PDP-Laban leader, also attended the meeting.

Martin Romualdez said Arroyo, chairperson emeritus of Lakas-CMD, is committed to help Alvarez steer the passage of important measures that would help the Duterte administration push its economic reforms and campaign for good governance.

“Former President Arroyo is committed to help the country and she will do everything she can to the best of her knowledge and ability to contribute to nation building,” Martin Romualdez said.

Earlier, Martin Romualdez’s Lakas-CMD and Alvarez signed a coalition agreement for the Lakas-CMD and PDP-Laban coalition under the supermajority in the House of Representatives.
