The information technology and business process management industry set an ambitious goal to add a million direct jobs by 2022 under a new roadmap.
Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines executive committee chairman Benedict Hernandez said the IT-BPM sector was expected to hire 1 million more employees over the next six years.
“Our ambition is to create another 1 million higher-value direct jobs in IT-BPM over the next six years. There’s also additional 3 million to 4 million indirect jobs created per 1 million jobs in our industry, according to research. So in total, we are looking at 4 to 5 million new jobs in the country,” he said during the media launch of Roadmap 2016 at Makati Shangri-La hotel.
He asked other sectors of the IT-BPM industry to share their thoughts on how to sustain the growth of the industry that would be a key component of the Roadmap 2022.
“As we hit our targets for the original Roadmap 2016, we need to unveil a new industry game plan that will enable our country’s IT-BPM sector to achieve continued remarkable growth and contributions to the economy. The global market and technology trends present significant opportunities for the Philippines,” he said.
The Philippine IT-BPM sector is growing at more than twice the growth of the global industry over the last five years. With a 6-percent compounded annual growth, the global opportunity for IT-BPM is expected to grow from $166 billion to $250 billion by 2022.
Frost and Sullivan partner Nitin Bhat said the roadmap would address concerns over digital transformation, automation and artificial intelligence and new delivery models.
Frost and Sullivan is working with IBPAP to create, polish and deliver the new roadmap by October 2016.
“If you’re looking at the next years, there should be an upscaling of talents especially the low tier tasks that will be affected by automation. Although some parts can be automated, we still need people to design the processes. And those who will be affected should be upgraded to mid to high-level tasks,” said Bhat.
He said it was one of the interventions that would be incorporated in Roadmap 2016.
ITBPAP group is still working on industry targets for the next roadmap. The group said the share of voice services would likely gradually decline as data services continued to grow.
ITBPAP has six vertical sectors represented by Animation Council of the Philippines Inc., Contact Center Association of the Philippines, Game Developers Association of the Philippines, In-House Centers Council, Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines and Philippine Software Industry Association.
