His rank of full general is now up for confirmation by the Commission on Appointments.

Visaya was commander of the Southern Luzon Command based in Lucena City before President Rodrigo Duterte appointed him Armed Forces chief.

He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983.

Visaya has until December to lead the AFP as he will be reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56 this year.

Duterte has ordered him to eliminate the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf and to help the Philippine National Police fight crime and eliminate illegal drugs.

After donning his new rank, Visaya proceeded to the headquarters of the Philippine Air Force where he was briefed on the command’s current programs.

His classmate, Air Force Chief Edgar Fallorina, awarded him the Honorary Aviator’s Gold Wings for being the top AFP official.
