Fire razes Ateneo campus

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Fire presumably  caused  by faulty  electrical wiring destroyed two four-story buildings of Ateneo de Zamboanga University early Thursday morning.

City fire marshal Chief Inspector Clint S. Tsa, as of press time, could not yet provide  the exact value of the damaged structures, equipment and office supplies. Unconfirmed reports, however, said the Jesuit-run university, managed by president Fr. Tarel San Juan,  lost close to P15 million in the fire which began at about 7:30 a.m.

A school guard told media the fire started at the rooftop of Suaras building whose third and fourth floors housed the institution’s College of Law.

The building was reportedly made of first-class hard wood materials constructed several decades ago.

The other destroyed four-story building comprised the college faculty room,  computer laboratory—where some 100 computer units were installed—and library.
