An Epic Summer with R.O.X. Outdoor Festival 2016!

It’s extremely hot outdoors but for most Filipinos, this doesn’t stop them from heading out to some far-flung beach to get a tan or participate in fun outdoor sports activities with their family and friends. Last April, R.O.X. or Recreational Outdoor eXchange, Southeast Asia’s biggest outdoor superstore and the go-to place for outdoor gears, held R.O.X. Outdoor Festival 2016 in partnership with Bonifacio High Street, Ford Go Further, and co-presented by Summit Natural Mineral Water, marking the event as an epic summer experience.

The event has proven that people can endure the heat if they’re having fun, as athletes and weekend warriors participated in challenges, games and workshops that kept everyone going the whole day. The festival aimed to encourage people to get a taste of the outdoors with activities like walk climbing, biking, skateboarding, obstacle courses and special crash courses like the talk on Outdoor Survival by Dr. Ted Esguerra – the Expedition and Wilderness Emergency Medical Services Physician of the Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition team and the Voyage of the Balangay –that encouraged the crowd to experience the calling of the wild outdoors, and photography sessions for outdoor shoots.

The Zero Gravity Challenge

One of the most fun to watch was the endurance challenge – Last Man Standing – where a group of strong-knee-hopefuls braved the hours from day to night, standing on rounded wooden stilts until their knees gave way and made them fall. Those who didn’t join the activities stood in awe, cheering and screaming at The Zero Gravity challenges while men and women competed in wall climbing. Booths were lined up with special prizes waiting for any brave soul who would accept physical challenges.

The fun outdoors didn’t stop even when the sun already set, as the crowd was treated to outdoor film showings and band performances from Up Dharma Down, which kept everyone pumped up. Capping off the event was the announcement of winners.

Outdoor brands that participated in the festival and whose products were available during the event and also at the multi-storey building of R.O.X. in Bonifacio High Street were North Face, Salomon, Fox, Columbia Sportswear, Mountain Hardwear, Sea To Summit, Poler, Eddie Bauer, Quiksilver, Roxy, O’Neill, Volcom and DC, among others.
