Army finds two eagles, no rebels

Army troopers found two eagles in two separate cages in an abandoned hut in Barangay Cawayanin, Lopez, Quezon.

Southern Luzon Command  chief Lieutenant General Ricardo Visaya said the eagles,   a male   and a female,     were very weak when found by the troopers.

One of the two eagles shown in this photo contributed by the Army’s 85th Infantry Battalion.

Visaya said the soldiers were pursuing a group of  communist rebels when they stumbled into the hut.

The soldiers  radioed their battalion commander, Lieutenant Colonel Simeon Talosig, who, in turn, ordered them to secure the eagles.

Visaya said Talosig immediately informed the local office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources  that fetched the eagles from the battalion headquarters on Feb. 16.
