Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. said Wednesday sales jumped 50 percent in January from a year ago, on the back of strong demand for the all-new Montero Sport vehicles.

MMPC said sales in January also surpassed the December level by 14 percent.

The company said it sold 4,867 vehicles in January, with almost a third of sales accounted for by the new Montero Sport with 806 units and the previous generation Montero with 816 units.

Mitsubishi started delivering the all-new Montero Sport to more than 3,000 buyers who have reserved a unit.

“In spite of the issues that hounded the Montero Sport last year, we are truly delighted with the outcome of total reservations received as well as actual sales turnout last month. It confirms the market’s confidence in the Montero Sport brand,” MMPC first vice president for marketing Froilan Dytianquin said.

“We believe that apart from its strikingly attractive and exciting styling, Montero Sport’s other features such as the new powerful and efficient 2.4 Mivec clean diesel, class-leading 8 speed automatic transmission, advanced four-wheel drive system and safety features convinced our customers to consider our all-new Montero Sport,” he said.

He said Mitsubishi was pleased with how the rate sales was going especially for the Montero Sport.

“I believe that you cannot really put a good product down,” Dytianquin said.

Sales of the predecessor Montero model that the company is still selling also sold 200 times more than last December in spite of the introduction of the new generation model, he said.

Dytianquin said consumers still found the GLX model to have outstanding value proposition and good savings considering the models excellent specs.

Buyers for the all new Montero Sport can visit any Mitsubishi Motors outlet nationwide and request for a test drive, he said.
