Two Chinese nationals were arrested and 31 kilos of shabu were found in their possession during a buy-bust operations in Quezon City on Wednesday, police said.
This brought to 131 people collared and P90 million worth of shabu seized by police afer two weeks of crackdown on drug dealing in Metro Manila.
National Capital Region Police Office-Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group conducted the buy-bust in Quezon City that resulted in the arrest of Geng Qing Chuan, 35; and Xiangfan Yao, 28, both residents of Ongpin, Binondo in Manila.
Last Monday, a buy-bust operation was conducted in Mulawin Street, Purok 3 in Barangay New Lower Bicutan which resulted in the arrest of Gongli Li, 36 years old and resident of Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Metro Manila police chief Joel Pagdilao said these were accomplished as part of the efforts of the NCRPO supporting the anti-crime program of National Police director Ricardo Marquez.
The arrest of Chuan and Yao came a day after PNP operatives nabbed two Filipino-Chinese in Valenzuela City confiscating from the suspects 37 kilos of shabu with a street value of P187 million, bringing to a total of 67 kilograms of chemical substance seized after the PNP waged a relentless drive against the proliferation of drugs in the country.
Sonny Ang, 67, and Tiusecon Benito, 47, were arrested last Monday in front of Flying V Gas Station along Narciso Street, Barrage Lawang Bato, Valenzuela at about 8:30 a.m.
Marquez disclosed that the suspects bought three kilos of shabu to a poseur-buyer that lead to the eventual confiscation of 27 kilos of shabu.
“So it’s high time that we intensified our campaign against illegal drugs and there’s also a need to determine where the illegal drugs were coming from,” Marquez said.
He said that police were trying to verify if the Valenzuela arrest was linked to that in Quezon City.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Customs also scored a hit with the seizure of more than half a million pesos worth of shabu at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in three separate parcels bound for the Saudi Arabia and United Kingdom.
Customs deputy commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said the parcels were found inside Naia warehouse by customs Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agents were tipped off about the illegal drugs.
He said the parcels contained 50 grams of white crystalline substance, believed to be shabu, hidden in a children’s book bound for the United Kingdom.
Nepomuceno did not disclose the identities of the parcels’ senders and recipients so as not to jeopardize follow-up operations.
