A suspected leader of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democatic Front was arrested Wednesday by government security forces in Barangay Hugo Perez, Trece Martirez City, Cavite, Southern Luzon Command chief Lieutenant General Ricardo Visaya said.
Visaya identified the suspect as Andres Hubilla alias Magno, allegedly a member of the Bicol Regional Party Committee.
“Hubilla was former secretary of the Komiteng Probinsya ng Sorsogon. His arrest happened this morning at around 9:05 o’clock at his hideout,” Visaya said.
Police record shows that Hubilla has pending murder and attempted murder cases filed before the Regional Trial Court of Sorsogon.
The arresting team allegedly recovered hand grenades, cellphones and documents with high intelligence value from Hubilla.
Hubilla was then brought to the Trece Martirez City Police Station for documentation and filling of appropriate and additional charges.
On Tuesday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines handed a total of P22.5-million reward money to nine hooded tipsters for the capture or neutralization of “high-value” targets which includes rebel leaders.
The military, however, could not immediately confirm if the government has placed reward money for the capture of Hubilla.
Karapatan, a human rights alliance the military tagged as leftist, has been regarded the reward money being set up by the Department of National Defense and Department of Interior and Local Government as an “organized racket” of some government officials including the AFP and the Philippine National Police.
