Fil-Am cyclist boosts Rio bid

FILIPINA-AMERICAN BMX rider Sienna Fines made some gains in her bid to make it to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

The 17-year-old Fines, a multi-titled rider at her young age, topped the junior women’s division of the 2015 Asian BMX Championships over the weekend in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.

Fines beat Thailand’s Chutikarn Kitwanichsatien in the final with 60 points,  with Kitwanichstien settling for the silver with 50 points and Myanmar’s Khing Zin Moe taking the bronze with 40 points. 

With the win, Fines moved up in ranking from 36th place and now has a total of 100 UCI points. 

So far, Fines has claimed around 136 podium finishes, with 50 wins, and seven National Age Group Top 10 rankings.

Axell Etienne of France is the world top BMX rider in her category with 795 points, while Ruby Huisan of The Netherlands is at no. 2 with 525.
