Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos and Representative Neptali Gonzales will be fielding their  wives  for the positions that they will be leaving, as mayor and representative of the city’s lone district, respectively, in 2016 local polls.

Accompanied by their husbands, Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos and Queenie Gonzaleson Monday   filed their COC as the city mayor and representative   at the city’s Commission on Elections office.

Abalos, who became the city’s chief executive for almost two decades, is now on his third and last term.

Gonzales, who is also in his third and final term, is no longer eligible for reelection.

Abalos, a lawyer by profession, said he wants to go back to private life. He  said that he would not act as a “shadow mayor” although he would help his wife in  continuing  his programs.

“I will not get any position in the city hall because when I became mayor, my father (former Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr.) didn’t interfered. It could be her decision, but I’m always here to help,” said Abalos.
