Traveling Taiwan with TAITRA: A journey defined by ease, warmth, and connection

There are trips that impress through spectacle, and then there are those that stay with you because of how they make you feel.

Traveling through Taiwan this December, under the auspices of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), offered the latter. From the moment we arrived in Taipei, the journey unfolded with a sense of ease that never felt staged or hurried, allowing both the destinations and the people to leave a lasting impression.

Earlier in the journey, a visit to the H2U office offered insight into Taiwan’s approach to preventive health and wellness.

The space reflected efficiency and care, emphasizing how health management here is designed to be accessible and seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

Transitioning the day onto BASEPARA they offered a lighthearted and memorable introduction to one of Taiwan’s most loved sports. Trying baseball firsthand, even as beginners, became less about learning the rules and more about shared participation. The experience led the session into an easy moment of laughter and connection, while highlighting how sport in Taiwan is often approached as a way to bring people together.

Dinnerat 85TD Restaurant was the perfect way to wind down and finally get to meet all the finalists and the faces behind Taitra’s go healthy with Taiwan event.

Located within Taipei 101, the eight-course meal unfolded seamlessly, allowing each dish to be appreciated without feeling overwhelming. The night was filled with laughter and conversations that made everyone feel connected with a sense of friendly familiarity to one another encouraged by executive director of TAITRA, Brian Lee, who hosted our memorable dinner. Dining high above the city offered a striking contrast to the casual moments of the trip, blending refined cuisine with panoramic night views of Taipei.

Go Healthy with Taiwan

What stood out early on was how naturally the group came together. Media representatives and finalist delegates from different parts of the world quickly found common ground. Conversations flowed effortlessly, whether over shared meals or during long transfers between cities. There was no sense of formality or hierarchy, just a collective openness that made the experience feel collaborative rather than curated.

This sense of connection was mirrored by the people of Taiwan themselves. Across cities and regions, the warmth of local hospitality was consistent and sincere. Simple interactions were marked by patience, courtesy, and a quiet attentiveness that made visitors feel genuinely welcome. Even without a shared language, kindness was easily understood, reinforcing the idea that hospitality here is instinctive rather than performative.

A moment that stuck with me was when it was discussed over dinner how the people of Taiwan talk about themselves as a community instinctively. It was pointed out by my great friend Eric representing Mexico, when Sophia and Weiting, our lovely tour guides spoke about their hometowns they referred to it as “our hometown” instead of beginning with “my”, this applies to everything else they spoke about, thinking about themselves as part of a whole community.

Beyond the city, the journey offered moments of calm and reflection.

At Sun Moon Lake, the landscape encouraged a slower pace. Cycling along the lake was not just a scenic activity, but a reminder of how deeply nature is woven into everyday life in Taiwan. It was a moment where the group, despite different backgrounds, shared the same stillness and appreciation.

It was definitely a view to treasure and a day deeply appreciated by everyone.

The return to Taipei brought the journey to a gentle close in Beitou. The hot springs offered a quiet space to unwind, reflecting a culture that values rest and balance as much as productivity. It was an understated yet fitting conclusion to a week defined by thoughtful pacing and human connection.

From a lifestyle perspective, Taiwan reveals itself through subtlety. Its strength lies not in grand gestures, but in consistency of kindness, efficiency, and respect. The trip felt seamless because everything was considered for both the media and finalists. It is this sense of care, shared by both hosts and locals alike, that makes traveling in Taiwan feel deeply reassuring and memorable.
