DUMAGUETE CITY – Metro Dumaguete Water has sent a second batch of relief assistance on Thursday to households affected by Typhoon Tino in Canlaon City. This second relief mission is bringing food, hygiene kits, and kitchenware for around 200 families or approximately 1,000 individuals.
The Thursday relief mission augments the 8,000 liters of water along with a water tanker team to help supply affected resident on November 7, while an additional 5000 liters of potable water were given to the people of Canlaon to through the Bureau of Fire Protection – Dumaguete and the Local Government Unit of Dauin.
“Recovery from disasters such as from Typhoon Tino is a long process. MDW continues to provide support whenever we can to the affected communities,” Engr. Robert R. Cabiles, Chief Operating Officer said.
The relief aid was carried out by MDW’s Kauban employee-volunteers who assisted in repacking and delivering goods to affected families. They were assisted by the 62nd Infantry Batallion stationed in the city. The employee-led donation drive has collected 85 additional relief bags composed of clothing and food.
Cabiles noted that Typhoon Tino caused severe damage to the water distribution network of Canlaon and other municipalities. “According to earlier impact assessments from the local government, safe water is one of the primary needs of individuals especially in times of calamities, and yet, the water system is also one of the most vulnerable. The restoration of these facilities is integral to an area’s recovery. In the meantime, MDW is here to lend a hand to our fellow Negrenses.”
The assistance forms part of MDW’s Kauban Program – a continuing banner of community-centered programs that support disaster response, water and sanitation needs, and educational advocacies, among others.
