A leading telco company, which is part of the Ayala Group, has renewed its commitment to digitalization of businesses.

Globe Telecom president Ernest Cu, in a statement, said 700 new cell sites were built and 8,036 were upgraded as of October 2020 with 600 more cell sites finished by the end of the year.

As proof of Globe Telecom's aggresive expansion,

the latest Mobile Network Experience Report by independent mobile analytics firm Opensignal said that telecom subscribers in the Philippines saw significant improvements from the fourth quarter of 2018 and third quarter of 2020.

Globe Telecom’s mobile data average download speeds reportedly improved by 80.9% from 4.7 Mbps to 8.5 Mbps. 2. Mobile 4G availability rose by 19.5 percentage points from 63.7% to 83.3%, recording improvements for at least 10 consecutive quarters, according to the report.

The findings concluded that both Globe and Smart have made excellent progress since fourth quarter of 2018 in Mindanao, National Capital Region, North and Central Luzon, South Luzon and Visayas in terms of video experience, download speed experience, latency experience, and 4G availability already at 80% nearing global average of 86.3%.

Digitalization is the only recourse for the country to resolve the crisis brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, according to Ayala Corp. Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala.

“We realized that there were tremendous number of products and services that will have to ride obviously on a digital infrastructure,” Zobel de Ayala said during the recent online Pilipinas Conference organized by Stratbase Albert del Rosario Institute.

Zobel de Ayala said there is absolutely no choice but to go digital if we aspire for a sustainable economic recovery.
