MGEN Empowers Iloilo Fisherfolk through Sustainable Aquaculture Program

18 December 2025 – Pasig City, Philippines – Meralco PowerGen Corporation (MGEN), through its thermal subsidiary Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC), officially launched its support for the Sustainable Mud Crab Fattening through Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) project to benefit the Ingore-Baldoza Fisherfolk Association in Barangay Ingore, Iloilo City. This initiative is in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Barangay Ingore and with the support of Taytay Sa Kauswagan (TSKI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The project aims to provide the local fisherfolk community with a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative livelihood while promoting responsible aquaculture practices that protect marine biodiversity. It aims to equip the Ingore-Baldoza Fisherfolk Association, a community-based group actively engaged in sustainable aquaculture, with RAS technology to support mud crab fattening – a model program that can be replicated in other coastal communities.
