AI Literacy for the Next Generation: JA Philippines Launches Project FUTURE

Junior Achievement of the Philippines (JA Philippines), in partnership with the Rotary Club of Makati Arnaiz, Armada Innovation Labs, and AWS Security Users Group Philippines, formally launched Project FUTURE: AI-LIT Tech Literacy for All last September, at the AWS Office in Arthaland, Bonifacio Global City.

The initiative aims to equip Filipino students with fundamental knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and cybersecurity—skills that are becoming increasingly vital across industries. Project FUTURE bridges the gap between classroom learning and the demands of the workplace by exposing students to real-world applications of technology at an earlier stage.

Students from Mandaluyong Science High School, La Huerta National High School, and Mataas na Paaralan ng Neptali Gonzales participated in the event, gaining exposure to digital skills that prepare them for sustainable, high-value careers both locally and globally.

“Introducing AI, cloud, and cybersecurity in high school ensures students are not just passive users of technology but active builders of it,” Ms. Sheila Vasquez, Unite for Good President of the Rotary Club of Makati Arnaiz, said. “By starting early, we give them both the technical skills and the ethical mindset to use these tools responsibly.”

The day’s program included the Youth & Young Leaders Track on Cybersecurity, led by Dean Armada, CEO and Chief Architect of Armada Innovation Labs, who shared insights from decades of global training in cloud and security. A session on AI in Security Operations by Justine Romero of Antarex Cyber PH showed students how AI tools can transform cyber defense into innovation.

At the panel discussion, the speakers tackled key questions on ethics, the role of traditional subjects in the age of AI, and how technology can break cycles of poverty through new career opportunities.

The program also featured Forum on Public–Private Partnerships in Technology, moderated by Haifa Carina of Ascendion, which emphasized the need for collaboration among educators, industry leaders, and government to make initiatives like Project FUTURE sustainable and scalable.

“AI is a tool, and with the right guidance, it can lift families and communities out of poverty,” said Justine Romero, Pre-Sales at Antarex Cyber PH.  “We are shaping a workforce that is not only tech-savvy but also values-driven.”

By equipping today’s students with the skills and values needed in the digital age, JA Philippines and its partners reaffirm their commitment to preparing Filipino youth not just to adapt to the future of work, but to lead it.
