Eala back in PH, trains at Manila Polo Club for Chinese tourney

Alexandra Eala is training hard this week at the Manila Polo Club courts in Makati City to get ready for the 2025 Jingshan Tennis Open in China.

Moving up to world no. 57 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association rankings on Monday, Eala is the top-seeded player in the first edition of the tournament, a WTA 125-level event.

The 20-year-old Eala will be seeking her second crown afte claiming her maiden WTA 125 trophy at the Guadalajara Open less than two weeks ago.

With a total prize money of $115,000 up for grabs, Eala will also go after the $22,730 top purse that is at stake for the women’s singles winner in the event slated from Sept. 22 to 28.

Last June, Eala was a runner-up in the WTA 250 Eastbourne Open in Great Britain.

After that, Eala’s ranking leapt to five spots from no. 61 after she advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 São Paulo Open in Brazil, where she lost to Indonesia’s Janice Tjen.

Australian Talia Gibson is the second seeded player, while Tamara Korpatsch of Germany is the no. 3.

Eala could have joined the China Open, which is a WTA 1000 event in Beijing. But she decided to go for the WTA level 125 event in Hubei province.
