Ronda Rousey delivered a swift and decisive victory over Gina Carano in the main event of Most Valuable Promotions’ first mixed martial arts card, as MVP MMA 1 took place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, streaming live in the Philippines on Sunday, May 17.
The bout, promoted under Jake Paul’s expanding combat sports venture, was billed as a long-awaited super-fight between two of the most recognizable names in women’s MMA.
Rousey wasted no time establishing her grappling credentials. From the opening exchange, she closed the distance and scored a quick double-leg takedown, bringing Carano to the canvas within seconds of the opening bell.
Once on the ground, Rousey immediately advanced her position, transitioning to full mount before Carano could build a defensive structure or create separation.
Carano attempted to shift momentum during a scramble, briefly fishing for a guillotine choke in an effort to slow the former Olympic judoka’s advance. However, the attempt exposed her right arm in the process.
Rousey capitalized instantly, isolating the limb and methodically adjusting her position to secure control.
With precision and pressure, “Rowdy” locked in an armbar. Carano had little time to react once the hold was fully set, tapping out just 17 seconds into the first round.
Despite the brevity of the contest, both athletes displayed mutual respect following the conclusion. They shared a brief embrace inside the cage, acknowledging the symbolic nature of the matchup, which had been discussed for years but never materialized during their respective primes.
MVP MMA 1 featured a broader card of established names and notable matchups, including a co-main event victory for Mike Perry over Nate Diaz via doctor stoppage, and a first-round knockout win for Francis Ngannou against Philipe Lins.
In another featured bout, Adriano Moraes authored a dramatic technical submission victory over late replacement Phumi Nkuta in a 130-pound catchweight contest.
