Love stories built on the idea of “opposites attract” have long been a staple in romantic fiction, and Avenues of the Diamond, the fourth installment of the hit University Series, is no exception. But do its lead stars believe in the idea?

During the upcoming series’ recent press conference, Manila Standard Entertainment posed the question to the series’ main leads, Aubrey Caraan and Lance Carr, who portray Sam and Clyden, respectively. Their love story begins with an arranged marriage, forcing them to navigate their clashing personalities and unexpected feelings.

“I do believe in opposites attracting. At the end of the day, as long as both people know how to work through their differences and share the same main goal in the relationship, then yes, opposites can make it work,” Lance answered.

Aubrey, however, had a different take.

“I’m not sure. For me, it’s easier to be with someone who shares the same interests, the same values. It just makes the connection more natural,” she said.

Their contrasting perspectives mirror their characters’ journey in Avenues of the Diamond. In the story, Clyden is a smart but distant character, whereas Sam is a vibrant and sociable person. Their contrasting personalities lead to tension, yet they also enhance the emotional richness of their narrative. In addition to the romantic aspect, the actors discussed their chemistry as a newly formed romantic duo.

Lance, stepping into his first lead role, emphasized the importance of making his co-star feel at ease.

“Since this is her first time working in a love team, I’ve been doing my best to make her comfortable. There are a lot of emotional scenes, and I just want to make sure she feels safe and supported,” Lance shared.

For Aubrey, the experience has been a lesson in vulnerability.

“I used to keep my feelings to myself because I didn’t want to burden anyone. But through this project, I’ve learned that my emotions are valid. It’s okay to share and express them,” she explained.

Avenues of the Diamond focuses on romance but also explores themes of ambition, friendship, and self-discovery. Director Gino Cruz emphasized the significance of remaining faithful to the original material while enhancing the story’s depth.

“This installment tackles a lot of personal struggles. Sam’s character, for example, isn’t just about love—she’s also figuring out what she really wants in life. And I think that resonates with a lot of young people today,” the filmmaker said.

Avenues of the Diamond is set to stream on Viva One on April 11.
