Oil firms see P0.30-cut on diesel, unsure on gasoline

CONSUMERS can expect a rollback for diesel of as much as P0.30 per liter, but gasoline may rollback or increase by P0.10 per liter on Tuesday to reflect the movement of prices in the world market this week.

Jetti Petroleum president Leo Bellas said diesel will likely have a rollback of P0.10 to P0.30 per liter while gasoline will have a price cut or mark up of P0.10 per liter.

“Product markets mirrored the softening trend in crude oil prices, as prospects for a Russia-Ukraine peace deal eased concerns over tight supplies. Asian price benchmarks have softened as supply expectations rise, with potential heavier outflows from China, and as refineries return from turnaround,” Bellas said.

He added that while this week’s average MOPS prices have eased down versus last week, the depreciation of the Philippine peso by P0.36 versus the US dollar is one of the factors that reduced the potential rollback on domestic prices next week.

“Also, the freight and premium components, while these have tapered down as well, are still elevated,” he said.

Rodela Romero, director of the Department of Energy’s Oil Industry Management Bureau said the oil firms are expected to cut pump prices based on the 4-day trading in the Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS).

Romero said gasoline is expected to have a rollback of around P0.30 per liter, diesel by P0.60 per liter and kerosene by around P0.65 per liter for Dec. 16 to 22, 2025.

“These estimates exclude the operating cost of the oil companies and other premiums,” Romero said, citing several factors that influenced the movement of global oil prices this week.

She said oil prices eased as investors shifted focus back to Russia-Ukraine peace talks.

She said oil prices slipped by two percent on Monday after Iraq restored production in one of its oilfields which accounts for 0.5 percent of world oil supply.

“Final adjustments will be determined after the last trading day (Friday),” Romero said.

On Dec. 12, the oil firms raised the price of gasoline by P1.20 per liter but did not move diesel and kerosene prices.
