Senator Ronald dela Rosa addressed recent concerns regarding the exemption granted to Armed Forces personnel under the Comprehensive Firearms Law in the Philippines.
He reassured citizens that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is the primary enforcer of this legislation and that the recent memorandum from the Chief PNP regarding military personnel is both valid and legal.
He clarified that this exemption is not preferential treatment but a practical measure to avoid redundancy and unnecessary costs for active military and police officers.
According to the senator and chair of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, these individuals already undergo regular drug and neuro-psychiatric tests as part of their service requirements. Ram Superable
“Why impose additional neuro-psychiatric and drug tests on active soldiers and police officers for gun license requirements when they already undergo these evaluations regularly? It represents an unnecessary financial burden,” he said.
The Comprehensive Firearms Law, enacted in 2013, establishes a framework for regulating firearm ownership and use in the country.
