A DISPUTE has developed between the Philippine National Police-Anti Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) and the Headquarters Support Service (HSS) of Camp Crame over a seized vehicle involved in an alleged kidnapping incident.
HSS chief Brig. Gen. Job Russel Balaquit said in a press briefing that the AKG did not coordinate with his office about the parking of the sports utility van (SUV), a black Ford Everest, which was an evidence in the kidnapping case.
Suspicions arose that an AKG personnel had used the van for personal purpose and parked it at the parking lot of the Married Officers’ Quarters (MOQ) inside the camp.
“That’s what they said,” Balaquit said when asked to comment on AKG’s claim that they coordinated on where to park the SUV because their parking area was already full.
“As far as i know, there was no communication with us,” Balaquit insisted.
The car in question was reportedly parked at the officers row in violation of a standing order, according to Balaquit, hence he asked the AKG to explain and conduct an inquiry on the matter.
AKG spokesperson Maj. Eleonor Villaruz explained that they have just returned to the camp from an operation and were in a hurry so they parked the far at the officers’ row because the AKG parking space was already full.
A memorandum released by HSS on Aug. 22 strictly prohibited parking vehicles on the roadside of the officers’ row and could only use the parking space reserved for them.
The vehicle in question, a FORD Everest, was reportedly seized last Aug 6 after it was used in the abduction incident.
Meanwhile, a couple, who claimed to be victims of a so-called “rentangay” scheme, said the Ford SUV was theirs and presented documents to prove ownership.
Villaruz clarified, however, that the vehicle was among six cars recovered during the July 14 rescue operation of a Chinese businessman abducted earlier that month.
