More than 11,000 former members and supporters of the Communist Party of the Philippines, New People’s Army, and National Democratic Front of the Philippines have applied for amnesty as the March 13 deadline closed, the National Amnesty Commission said Saturday.
In a statement, the commission said it received 11,278 applications from individuals linked to the communist movement, bringing total amnesty applications nationwide to 13,630.
The NAC said local outreach efforts helped boost applications as the deadline approached, with Local Amnesty Boards conducting information drives and intake activities across the country.
In the National Capital Region, the Local Amnesty Board held back-to-back application activities in Manila and Caloocan that generated more than 400 applications.
NAC chairperson Leah Tanodra-Armamento said the response shows many former rebels are choosing to reintegrate into society and pursue a future of peace and opportunity.
