Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan on Christmas Eve ordered the deployment of two multi-role response vessels (MRRVs) to ferry stranded passengers at the Port of Lucena in Quezon bound for San Agustin, Romblon.
The ships were delivered to address the shortage of passenger vessels amid peak holiday travel.
The PCG utilized BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) to ferry 75 passengers who were unable to secure commercial transport from Lucena, Quezon to San Agustin, Romblon at around 6:00 in the morning.
BRP Bagacay (MRRV-4410) remains on standby at the port to accommodate additional sea travelers.
According to Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog Commander, Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, the operation is being conducted in strict adherence to maritime safety and security protocols.
“This initiative underscores the PCG’s dual role as a maritime safety agency and a humanitarian force, reaffirming our commitment to compassion, unity, and service, especially during critical times, while making the Christmas season meaningful for families across island communities,” Tuvilla said.
