A COMBINED Army and police force has recovered a 50-mm machine gun believed taken by the communist rebels during an attack on a Philippine Coast Guard station and a Philippine Navy ship in Real, Quezon 22 years ago.
Troops of the Army’s 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division, in coordination with the Philippine National Police, recovered the machine gun along with several rounds of ammunition during a security operation in Lopez, Quezon on Sunday.
The operation was carried out by soldiers of the 85th Infantry (Sandiwa) Battalion in coordination with personnel of the Lopez municipal police force, resulting in the recovery of the machine gun and 179 rounds of ammunition in Barangay Sta. Elena.
In a statement, 2nd ID chief Maj. Gen. Ramon Zagala said the recovery reflects the steady results of persistent operations and cooperation among security forces and communities.
