PBBM stresses loyalty to people, Constitution in AFP promotions

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. called on newly promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to lead with integrity and loyalty to the Constitution as he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to military modernization and improved benefits for troops.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony at Malacañan Palace on Thursday, President Marcos said the promotions marked not just personal milestones but a “sacred trust” to serve the Filipino people and protect the republic.

“This ceremony serves as a powerful affirmation that our loyalty is anchored to the Constitution, to our democratic institutions, and above all, to the people,” the president said.

“The stars you bear are constant reminders of your obligation to protect our sovereignty, uphold national security and safeguard the freedoms of every Filipino,” he added.

He congratulated the newly promoted officers, including two graduates of foreign pre-commissioned training institutions, saying their new ranks carry greater responsibility to exercise wisdom, restraint, and moral clarity.

The president said the AFP’s responsibility is shared with reservists, whom he described as a key force multiplier in strengthening the military’s overall capability.

He also highlighted recent efforts to keep the AFP a “model of discipline, competence and service,” citing expanded engagements with international partners, joint exercises, and enhanced interagency coordination to address emerging security challenges.

The commander in chief reiterated his commitment to the continued modernization of the armed forces and support for military personnel, noting the approval of higher base pay and the increase of the daily subsistence allowance for uniformed personnel to 350 pesos this year.

“These reflect our principle that honoring service means ensuring that those who serve are given the support and dignity they deserve,” he said.

He also paid tribute to the families of the officers, acknowledging their sacrifices, especially during the Christmas season.

Present at the ceremony were Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, Defense Undersecretary Irineo Espino, AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., service commanders, and other government officials.
