TACLOBAN CITY—The Department of Social Welfare and Development has provided at least P10.31 million worth of humanitarian assistance to families affected by Super Typhoon “Uwan” that battered Eastern Visayas earlier this month, an official said Friday.
As of Nov. 20, the DSWD has distributed 15,487 family food packs (FFPs), 733 ready-to-eat (RTE) food boxes, and 306 non-food items to affected households.
“The amount reflects the DSWD’s ongoing commitment to deliver immediate and sufficient support to communities impacted by disasters. It continues to gather updated information on damages and needs on the ground to guide relief and recovery operations,” DSWD regional information officer Jonalyndie Chua said.
In addition, all families who lost loved ones and those who were injured due to the typhoon received a total of P90,000 in cash assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.
Chua said the assistance augmented the resources of 72 local government units in the provinces of Eastern Samar, Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte and Biliran, where 191,618 families were reported to have been affected.
Meanwhile, at least P60.08 million worth of assistance was given to families affected by Typhoon “Tino” that hit the region in the first week of November.
The assistance included 86,264 FFPs, 5,024 RTE food boxes, 6,823 other food and non-food items, and P117,000 in cash assistance under AICS.
Currently, the DSWD Eastern Visayas has P74.74 million available in relief resources, including standby funds and stockpiles of food and non-food items to support future relief operations.
