Bogo Bay Fault movement results in coastal uplift

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported Tuesday that the magnitude-6.9 earthquake in northern Cebu last week resulted in a coastal uplift in Brgy. Nailon, Bogo City due to the movement of the recently discovered Bogo Bay Fault.

“The uplift is approximately one (1) meter based on the exposed tidal flats, raised tidal notches, and higher high-tide markers,” Phivolcs said.

The state seismic agency also released photos of the geological changes in the affected community, where post-earthquake assessments continue courtesy of the quick response team.
