The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday afternoon reported a total of 3,036 aftershocks from the magnitude-6.9 earthquake in Cebu.
Based on Phivolcs data as of 04:00 p.m. (October 2), the aftershocks ranged from magnitudes 1 to 5. At least 586 tremors have been plotted and 15 were felt.
Phivolcs is closely monitoring developments in light of the recent deadly quake. It advised residents to remain cautious as the aftershocks may last for days to weeks.
The earthquake struck at 9:59 p.m. Tuesday with its epicenter traced at 21 kilometers northeast of Bogo City. It has killed 72 people and injured 294 as of last reporting.
Search, rescue and retrieval operations are ongoing in all affected cities and municipalities across Cebu, which declared a state of calamity.
