Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando Artes expressed his support for the Digital Information for Monitoring and Evaluation (DIME) components related to the government’s flood control projects.
This initiative, launched by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Wednesday, provides the public with direct access to oversee government-funded infrastructure amid ongoing investigations into dubious contracts.
The initiative is part of Project DIME (Digital Information for Monitoring and Evaluation), a platform that employs satellites, drones, and geotagging to monitor the advancement of significant projects.
Additionally, it enables citizens to submit feedback using their Google or social media accounts.
Artes emphasized that the DIME initiative holds great significance, particularly for flood control projects, given that flooding represents one of the most substantial challenges in Metro Manila.
He stated that with the assistance of this system, it will be promptly determined if a project is effective, facilitating the appropriate actions, and enhancing the safety and welfare of communities.
“This measure aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to foster digitalization and transparency, ensuring that every centavo from public funds translates into tangible benefits for the populace,” the MMDA chief said.
DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman noted that citizen engagement is the most crucial aspect of the DIME initiative, urging the public to contribute their insights on the monitored projects.
Additionally, various government agencies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support this initiative.
