The Philippines has put its preparations in high gear for its hosting of the WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 from August 25 to 30, with the main competition to be held at the World Trade Center Metro Manila and the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City.
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Kiko Benitez, who chairs the interagency task force for the event, visited the Filipino competitors during their final training session on August 20 in Taguig. He said the competition ensures that skills taught in TESDA are aligned with global standards and prepares the workforce for emerging industries.
“WorldSkills creates specific competency standards in particular skill domains, ensuring that what we teach is at par with the rest of the world,” Benitez said. He added that the event not only allows the Philippines to benchmark against other nations but also opens opportunities to adopt new skills critical to industry development.
Preparations are now in their final stages, covering infrastructure, logistics, competition equipment, and coordination with ASEAN counterparts. The opening ceremony will be held on August 25 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, while the closing ceremony is set for August 30 at the SMX Convention Center Manila.
Aside from the competitions, TESDA has lined up side events including skills exhibitions, education and career guidance programs, and the “One School, One Country” cultural exchange initiative. Delegates will also join excursions to Philippine landmarks and innovation hubs, highlighting the country’s heritage and growth sectors. The event will gather hundreds of skilled youth from Southeast Asia competing in 32 skill areas.
