‘Modern tech embedded in police work’

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) belied Vice President Sara Duterte’s claim that the force is “outdated,” citing its continued emphasis on visible policing and stressing that modern technology is already deeply embedded in police operations.

During a media briefing on Friday, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro relayed the response of PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III to Duterte’s recent statement calling on the police force to focus on street visibility rather than advanced tools like drones and CCTV systems.

“We appreciate the Vice President’s insight on how we, the PNP, should do our policing, so we can be there whenever we are needed by the community,” Castro said, quoting Torre.

Torre asserted that the PNP has already incorporated technology into its operations.

“We have already incorporated technologies such as drones and CCTVs in our operations,” Torre said.
