Nazarene reminded devotees to avoid kissing the icon and observe health protocols as the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) persists.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Maj. Gen. Jonnel Estomo announced this during Thursday’s send-off ceremony for the 5,559 policemen who will be assigned at the Quiapo Church, Quirino Grandstand, and strategic checkpoints in Manila.

The policemen will be assisted by 175 members of the Bureau of Fire Protection and Military Joint Task Force, both from the NCR, in securing those areas.

During the procession, vendors will not be allowed within the vicinity of Quiapo Church while devotees and churchgoers are prohibited from bringing backpacks, as well as colored canisters except transparent plastic bags and water containers or bottled water.

“These measures are obviously to be carried out to preempt anyone who desires to conceal contrabands or other things that could wreak havoc in the celebration of the festivities and to further avoid the occurrence of any untoward incidents,” Estomo said.

Meanwhile, the airspace in the vicinity of Quirino Grandstand and Quiapo Church will be declared as “No Fly Zone” beginning 12 noon of January 6 until 12 noon of January 20.

All the ports and waterways near the vicinity will be secured as well.
